The beginning of Kailah's horse passion

From a very young age I had a passion for animals. At three, I joined my mom in Livorno, Italy where she was stationed while serving in the U.S. Military. I recall sitting on a pony for the very first time at an Italian fair. After that experience, when going to visit my grandparents back in the states, I was able to take riding lessons at a local barn near their house. It was at that program where I learned to care for various animals along with gaining riding experience. I lived in Italy for a few years until my family returned to the states due to receiving new military orders. Being a part of a military family, we traveled and moved quite often. I have had the opportunity of living in Italy, Virginia Beach, Colorado, and Florida. My family finally settled back in Connecticut when I was in middle school and I was able to pick up horseback riding again.

During my sophomore year of high school, I finally got my first dog. His name is Charlie and he is a puggle. I remember when I first met Charlie, I instantly felt a bond between us. My Charlie can be very shy at times, but he is also very sweet and silly. I love everything about him and enjoy spending time with him. My grandmother says that Charlie believes he is human as he tries to copy everything we do.

Although I feel very connected to all animals, I have come to realize that horses are one of my true passions. After high school, I attended and graduated from the University of Connecticut with a bachelor’s degree in Animal Science and enrolled in the Pre-vet track. During my four years at UConn, I joined both the Equestrian and the Dressage teams. I learned and grew as a member on these teams, with knowledge, and skills allowing me to improve my riding skills and increasing my ability to train the horses. I had the opportunity to hold the position as the teaching assistant for the riding program. Prior to this position at UConn, I held various positions in retail, daycare, and customer service with the DMV.

2020 was the year of my graduation, I was very excited about reaching this huge accomplishment. Shortly after starting my last semester at UConn, the pandemic hit and created a huge bump in the road in terms of me starting my future. The pandemic has affected people in many ways but for me it has allowed me to become a part of the MVC family. I am very grateful for the opportunity to explore and gain experience with many knowledgeable individuals. I am looking forward to learning more about the care of our furry friends and continue to enjoy being a part of Team MVC.
